SANTA CLARA, CA—The Irvine Company says its premier Silicon Valley office workplace, Santa Clara Gateway, has earned a prestigious Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, a designation recognizing the property as one of the region's most high-performing, sustainable campuses.

The honor, the second highest level of LEED recognition from the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council, comes in the new construction: building design and construction category, which scores properties on the use of sustainable materials, water and energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, location and transportation and overall innovation.

“Our goal is to provide the highest quality workplaces for our customers, and sustainable campuses are at the core of our commitment,” said Hanns Lee, regional senior vice president of Northern California for Irvine Company Office Properties. “We are honored to be recognized with LEED Gold certification and are pleased that our customers can share in the benefits that come from innovative, sustainable buildings.”

Located along the Great America Corridor near Levi's Stadium, public transit and the 237 freeway, Santa Clara Gateway is a 911,000-square-foot, six-building elite office campus in the heart of Silicon Valley. Finished in early 2014, Santa Clara Gateway already is 70% occupied and has attracted leading technology companies Dell, GlobalFoundries, Arista Networks and Square.

Designed as a workplace community, Santa Clara Gateway offers the convenience and sense of place found at Silicon Valley's leading corporate campuses with an onsite cafe, fitness center, conference facilities and outdoor workspaces with plush, resort-style seating and wireless Internet service.

Santa Clara Gateway is designed by famed architectural firm Pei Cobb Freed & Partners Architects and is the New York-based firm's first commercial design in Silicon Valley. The campus joins a long line of iconic Pei Cobb Freed buildings, including Boston's Hancock Tower and John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Chicago's Hyatt Center office tower, the U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Main Public Library.

Santa Clara Gateway's environmentally friendly features include floor-to-ceiling windows that filter heat and maximize natural light, and energy efficient lighting, heating, cooling and ventilation. High-efficiency plumbing fixtures and landscape irrigation systems conserve water at a critical time for California. Recycling programs divert waste from the region's landfills, while green cleaning policies are used throughout the campus.

Santa Clara Gateway promotes alternative commuting with onsite electric vehicle charging stations, priority parking for hybrid vehicles and bike lockers throughout the campus. Nearby light-rail and bus service is provided by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.

Irvine Company Office Properties owns and operates more than 50 LEED-certified properties spanning 16 million square feet of efficient, high-performance workspace in Silicon Valley, Orange, San Diego and Los Angeles counties. The company is California's largest LEED portfolio owner.

“Irvine Company has exhibited an exemplary commitment to transforming the real estate market through the LEED green building program,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council. “We congratulate Irvine Company for its leadership in building a healthier, more sustainable future.”

Irvine Company says that attaining LEED certification is part of the Irvine Company's long-standing commitment to thoughtful stewardship, sustainable practices and a determination to leave a positive legacy for future generations.
