SYDNEY, Australia—Sydney-based Crown Group has fielded a record number of inquiries for a new tower set to become an architectural centerpiece in the city.

More than 5,000 inquiries from around the globe have been submitted for developer's new $250-million residential and commercial tower to be built at 161 Clarence Street. Registrations of interest opened in March.

Crown Group CEO Iwan Sunito said the number of inquires had already surpassed each of Crown Group's prior project launches.

“We expected the exceptional location of this building in the heart of Sydney's CBD would be popular, but it's the iconic architectural design which has captured the attention of people around the world,” Sunito said. “The landmark building will also be home to our new luxury serviced-apartments catering to guests from around the globe.”

The project, named Crown Sydney, will begin sales on November 22.

The building will also form part of Crown Group's $1 billion serviced apartment and hotel operation to open in the next five years.

Designed by internationally renowned Koichi Takada Architects and chosen from a selection of world-class designs during an international design completion, the landmark building will feature heritage-inspired lower levels transitioning to a modern glass-and-steel tower, capped with more than a dozen steel arches.

The steel arches are designed to add a striking element to Sydney's skyline and envelope the tower's rooftop bar and garden.

The 220-apartment tower will feature a rooftop bar, pool and gym and be home to a selection of Crown Group's first boutique five-star serviced apartments. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2017.
