BALTIMORE—In what has been described as an amicable split, three principals of locally-based Chesapeake Real Estate Group LLC have left the firm to form a new company focused on urban redevelopment ventures.
Former Chesapeake Principals Doug Schmidt, Neil Tucker and Richard Manekin have formed Workshop Development. Schmidt, who left CBRE along with Chesapeake Principal Jim Lighthizer to form Chesapeake in 2005, will serve as principal of Workshop Development.
Over the years, Chesapeake's Lighthizer focused on large industrial-oriented projects in the Baltimore County region while Schmidt, Tucker and Manekin were more involved in urban redevelopment-oriented deals, according to the Baltimore Business Journal. Most recently, Schmidt, Tucker and Manekin are known for helping develop the Shops at Canton Crossing.
“Really what we specialize in is urban redevelopment, and it can be industrial, office, retail or residential—it just depends on what the opportunity is,” Schmidt says. “But in front of us, we have a number of multifamily projects we're looking at, and mixed-use.” See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
