WASHINGTON, DC—The DC Zoning Commission granted the approval or the first phase of Vision McMillan Partners' redevelopment plan for the McMillian Sand Filtration Plant here.
The planned unit development at the 25-acre site in Northeast DC calls for 2.1-million square feet of mixed-use space. Specifically, approximately 1 million square feet of medical office space will be built by Trammell Crow, 278 apartments and a 52,000-square-foot grocery store is to be built by Jair Lynch Development Partners, and EYA is to build 146 townhouses. Also part of the plan are a 17,500-square-foot community center and a 6.2-acre central park, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The commission voted 4-0 with one abstention in favor of the project's plans on Monday.
The project has sparked considerable opposition and a court battle over the approval is likely. Vision McMillan Partners was selected to redevelop the property eight years ago. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
