WASHINGTON, DC—CBS Corp. is in negotiations with Tishman Speyer LP to build a new headquarters here for its CBS News division at its current site and an adjoining property.
The negotiations, which are reportedly in their early stages, stem from a proposal by Tishman Speyer that would involve the purchase of an adjacent building at 2030 M St. NW that is currently owned by M Street Holdings LLC and is assessed at about $19.4 million, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The new CBS News headquarters would be built at the current CBS News headquarters at 2020 M St. NW and at the 2030 M St. NW site.
CBS News President David Rhodes sent an email to staffers last week that detailed the project. He said, “Today Jeff Fager and I are excited to announce plans to develop a new Washington bureau for CBS News—a big vote of confidence in our work from Leslie Moonves and the whole CBS Corporation. When the dust settles we will have a state-of-the-art, fully-digital facility at the same address where we started, 2020 M Street. We've seen other opportunities but now CBS has had a sensible proposal from a developer, which will raise a modern building on land encompassing 2030 M Street and our current footprint. We will ultimately vacate our rented space in 2000 M, our building will come down, and we will have a new technical core, studio, and newsroom still with our own entrance from M Street.” See story in the Washington Business Journal.
