NEW YORK CITY—Industry veteran Michael J. McNamara has been named senior managing director and global head of real estate investments for Manulife Asset Management Private Markets.
McNamara joined Manulife Asset Management Private Markets, the private asset management arm of Toronto-based Manulife, on Sept. 29. He joined the firm after spending the last two years as senior vice president and head of acquisitions and dispositions for Brookfield Office Properties of New York City. Based in New York City, McNamara reports to Kevin J. E. Adolphe, president and CEO of Manulife Asset Management Private Markets and Manulife Real Estate.
In his new post, McNamara is responsible for the development and execution of the company's global real estate investment strategy, with a combined focus on institutional investor accounts as well as Manulife's general fund, company officials say.
“Michael brings 34 years of experience in commercial real estate investments to our team,” says Adolphe. “His depth of expertise will be invaluable as we look to grow our institutional investor platform globally.”
He adds, “Michael is well known and respected in the real estate industry. Having him join our team will enable us to develop strong client relationships, further developing Manulife Real Estate's profile as a world class real estate investment management firm."
Prior to his role at Brookfield, McNamara was managing director and head of acquisitions, dispositions and research at Trecap Partners. He also was with Lehman Brothers Holdings as managing director and head of North American acquisitions from 2000 to 2009, and before that spent 20 years in senior roles with Equitable Real Estate and its successor company, Lend Lease Real Estate Investment Management.
