WASHINGTON, DC—Avison Young has recruited five brokers from competing firms to join its leasing team. They are Eli Barnes, Will Stern, Jonathan Wellborn and Greg Tomasso, who are joining Avison Young as principals, and Kate Oelschig as senior associate. Barnes, Stern, Wellborn and Oelschig are leaving Cassidy Turley to join Avison Young, and Tomasso comes from Akridge. They are joining the company's downtown DC agency leasing practice.
Avison Young established its DC office less than five years ago. Since then its leasing portfolio has grown to nearly 30 million square feet, according to Keith Lipton, managing director.
The company has made a number of local acquisitions, per the parent company's growth strategy of the last few years. It has snapped up, over the last five years, Appian Realty Advisors, Millennium Realty Advisors, Realty Management Co. and McShea & Co. In 2010 it opened a new office in Tyson Corner, and two years later, another one in suburban Maryland.
