ANNANDALE, VA—Staff of Fairfax County has given its approval for a plan by Southern Management Corp. and Webb Cos. to build an apartment building at the site of what is now the Annandale Lanes.
The Markham Place plan calls for a 12-story, 310-unit apartment building with 6,000 square feet of ground floor commercial, which will replace the 48-lane bowling alley that has been in operation since 1960, according to the Washington Business Journal.
"The proposed rezoning represents the first significant step in the revitalization of the Annandale [Community Business Center]," according to a Fairfax County staff report. The project will be the subject of discussion at an Oct. 30th Planning Commission meeting.
As of 2010, the entire Annandale CBC plan contained more than 3 million square feet of development, with the potential for an additional 4 millions square feet. Approximately 2.6 million square feet of the new development is earmarked for residential use. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
