TRENTON, NJ—The Council for Affordable Housing failed to pass new affordable housing recommendations on Monday, which could put the council in danger of violating a court order to enact the new regulations.
The council voted 3-3 to adopt the new rules. The tie vote meant the new rules did not pass. The council this past April approved the rules in a 5-1 vote and then brought the proposed regulations before the public for comment.
The New Jersey Supreme Court ruled in March that the council must adopt the proposed rules on or before Oct. 22 and that they be published by Nov. 17.
The new guidelines are designed to determine the amount of affordable each municipality in the state will need over the next 20 years. See story in The Record.
