JERSEY CITY, NJ—The Jersey City Council passed a resolution by a 7-2 vote that gives the 152-room Marriott hotel a 20-year tax abatement.
The 14-story downtown hotel is to be built at 80 Columbus Drive. Council President Rolando R. Lavarro says the $21-million hotel will bring nearly a $11-million payment in lieu of taxes to the city, as well as $400,000 in annual estimated hotel taxes.
The project will also create 100 construction jobs and 40 permanent jobs once the hotel opens in June 2016. See story in the Jersey Journal.
