ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has scheduled a second Atlantic City Summit for Nov. 12 at the office of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority here.
Jon Hanson of the New Jersey Gaming, Sports and Entertainment Advisory Committee, says the summit is a “work in progress,” but will be a follow-up to the first session on Sept. 8. Since then the state has received a number of proposals from casino, labor and business leaders, as well as government officials.
Hanson says the second summit will explore the possibility of placing some city services under state or county control. “Consolidation in general, or shared services, is something we're looking at,” Hanson said. In terms of reinventing its economy, Atlantic City hopes to diversify into a broader-based tourist destination by attracting more conventions, air service and non-gambling entertainment attractions, according to the Press of Atlantic City.
Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson is looking to convince The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey to establish an Atlantic City campus. Stockton College is reportedly in talks to buy either the closed Atlantic Club or Showboat casinos to use for a new Atlantic City campus. See story in the Press of Atlantic City.
