MIAMI—Alternative workspace is all the rage in Miami—and nationally. From executive office suites to virtual offices to coworking office space to incubators and accelerators, entrepreneurs and corporations alike are tapping into the shared workspace concept.

GlobeSt.com caught up with Danet Linares, vice chairman of Blanca Commercial Real Estate, to get her take on how significant the shared office space concept really is in Downtown Miami. She tells us the coworking or shared workspace concept is driving an increasing amount of leasing activity, as noted in a recent Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA) office study.

“The shared workspace concept model evolved from the executive suites office model to become more of a mix of social and business gathering for a group of independent entrepreneurs who benefits from collaborative work,” says Linares. She points to Regus, which is the business center behemoth. Regus is the nations' largest shared office space provider.

“Regus is leasing space in seven buildings with a total 80,239 square feet of office space in the Miami DDA Office Area,” Linares says. “At the same time, Downtown Miami is beginning to see a wave of larger-scale and independent shared workspace companies such as Pipeline, Quest Workspaces Suite and Your Executive Suite.”
