NEW CASTLE, DE—Wilmington University has acquired 41 acres of land on U.S. Route 202 and Beaver Valley Road for a new campus in Brandywine Hundred here.
The property is owned by Woodland Trustees Inc. of Wilmington. Plans call for three classroom buildings on 29 acres. Work on the first 50,000-square-foot building is expected to begin in 18 months or so, according to the News Journal. The initiative is reportedly the largest capital investment in the 46-year history of Wilmington University.
The expansion is necessary because the school's student population has been growing at a 7% annual clip for the past six years, according to University President Jack Varsalona.
The university expects to file plans with New Castle in the next few months. The land is already zoned for university use. See story in the News Journal.
