LAUREL, MD—Manekin Construction of Columbia, MD has been selected to build the first residence hall on the campus of Capitol Technology University here.
The project calls for a new four-story 100,000-square-foot building. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new building, which will house 300 undergraduate students, was held on Oct. 22, according to the Baltimore Sun. The project is a component of Capitol's five-year strategic plan to address the demand for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education on the undergraduate and graduate levels.
"The creative and thoughtful architectural design of this new residence hall will create a strong focal point on the campus of Capitol Technology University and represents the beginning of a new era for the university, says Manekin Construction president Craig Wess in a statement. "Students can look forward to interacting with a state-of-the-art building that fosters pride in the school and enhances the overall aesthetics of the campus."
On Oct. 1, the college announced the name change from Capitol College to Capitol Technology University. Founded in 1927, the university currently serves 754 students from 19 states and several foreign countries. See story in the Baltimore Sun.
