BALTIMORE—The Maryland Transit Administration is intending to lease land that had been earmarked for a new Walmart store in the Remington section of North Baltimore and use the site for a bus dispatch and parking facility.
The MTA in a letter to elected officials states it intends to sign a three-year lease for the property, which will provide the agency an alternative location to its Kirk Avenue bus facility that is being replaced. A $140-million bus facility broke ground more than a year ago, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.
The lease at the Remington property, owned by Seawall Development Co. would include converting a former Anderson Automotive showroom into a dispatch center. An above-ground bus fueling station will also be part of the MTA property. Seawall Development Co. has stated that its plans to develop a Walmart store at the site are on hold for at least three years. See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
