LOS ANGELES—Hundreds of real estate leaders gathered at the Vibiana in Downtown Los Angeles for the 2014 CoreNet REmmy Awards and Charity Gala. This year's REmmy Award recipients include Terri Johnson, senior director of global real Estate and facility services at Avery Dennison, Hyundai Motor America and the JLL team for Kaiser Permanente. The Southern California CoreNet chapter also gave $15,000 to the non-profit Junior Achievement of Southern California.

Johnson nabbed the CRE Executive for Industry Excellence award for moving the firm's corporate headquarters to an open and collaborative work environment. The judges noted that although there was steep competition in this category, Avery Dennison's new workspace “created visionary results” because it combined “domestic and international headquarters, change management and strong and patient leadership.”

Hyundai Motor America's team of Hyundai Engineering America, Gensler, Snyder Langston, Cresa and Turelk won the Leadership Award for an Innovative Project for its 500,000-square-foot LEED-Gold certified headquarters. The judges were extremely impressed by the design, explaining that it “reflected the ultimate in corporate real estate.” Some of the characteristics the judges appreciated about the building include sustainability, design, city entitlements and program management.

JLL's team for Kaiser Permanente, which includes John Vinnicombe, Troy Freeman, Jeff Adkison and Brendan McArthur, was given the Broker Creative Solution award for locating a 40-acre site on behalf of Kaiser. The judges picked the team because of the challenging task to find such a large site. They described the effort as “herculean” because it combined “site selection, assemblage, public/private properties, reuse, and bold persuasion.”

The chapter recently named its 2014-2015 board of directors, including Kelly Reenders, executive director  for the Community Development Agency for the City of Santa Ana, who is serving as chair of the board, and David Callahan, SVP at Avison Young, who is serving as president of the board.
