ROCKVILLE, MD—Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett is looking to hire someone to spearhead the county's economic development initiatives.
The Montgomery County Council will consider legislation proposed by Leggett to create an economic development ombudsman position in his administration. If approved, the ombudsman, to be paid an estimated $198,000 a year, will act as a liaison between developers and county and state agencies, to bring "systemic concerns to the attention of the county leadership for resolution," according to the Washington Business Journal.
"The purpose of this bill is to create a position to more efficiently facilitate the approval process of commercial and residential development projects and to help resolve conflicts that arise related to the entitlement process, permitting, and general regulatory procedures," Leggett wrote in a memo to Council President Craig Rice.
A public hearing on Legett's bill is scheduled for Jan 13. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
