WASHINGTON, DC—The General Services Administration has reinstituted a search for space in Foggy Bottom or Arlington for the Diplomatic Services bureau.
The GSA had launched a search for space for the bureau two years ago but later abandoned the initiative. The difference between that search and the current property review is that the GSA is looking to own rather than rent, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The agency is looking to acquire between 349,000 square feet and 507,900 square feet of space for the State Department bureau, which was about the same requirement it had on the market before it canceled its prior search in January 2013.
The search has been restricted to the following locations: Foggy Bottom, Rosslyn, Ballston, Crystal City or Pentagon City. Eligible sites should be within 2,640 walkable linear feet from an existing Metro station. New developments would be required to start construction by no later than June 2016. The GSA's current lease at 1801 N. Lynn expires on July 30, 2018. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
