PRINCETON, NJ—The first CEO of one of the state's chief economic development organizations Tracye McDaniel will be leaving Choose New Jersey at the end of January to take over as president and CEO of the Texas Economic Development Corp.

McDaniel, who took over as CEO of Choose New Jersey in December 2010, is a Texas native and prior to her stint in the Garden State, headed the Greater Houston Partnership for five years.

Ralph Larossa, president and chief operating officer of PSE&G, who takes over as chairman of the Choose New Jersey board in January, says a search to replace McDaniel will begin shortly, according to The Record.

McDaniel says the job in Texas allows her to continue, “to do something that I have a passion and love for – which is economic development,” and the chance to move back closer to her family.

She pointed to the agency's creation of the “State of Resilience” campaign in the wake of the damage inflicted by Superstorm Sandy, as some of the organization's best work.

“We were able to do that very quickly, when the state was still waiting for federal dollars … because we had private support,” she says, noting that a number of corporate and advertising executives from across New Jersey made the campaign a success. See story in The Record.
