NEWARK, DE— Carlino Development Group of Wyomissing, PA is proposing to redevelop the Cavaliers Country Club next to the Christiana Mall here and build a mixed-use residential and retail development.
The plan calls for more than 525 homes on the 145-acre site as well as approximately 379,000 square feet of commercial/retail space, according to the News Journal.
"There's a significant daytime population in this area—not just the employees of the mall but Christiana Hospital and adjacent offices. It's fairly close to the University of Delaware, and it's deemed a growth area by the state," says Peter S. Miller, president of Carlino Development Group.
The housing component of the project would include 220 apartments, 133 townhouses, 86 twin homes and 87 single-family houses. On the retail side, conceptual plans feature a grocery store, bank, pharmacy, day care and gym. The plans also include space for restaurants, medical-professional offices and a four- to five-story, 110-room hotel, which Miller says will likely be a Hilton or Marriott Courtyard.
