ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—The Atlantic City region shed 9,900 jobs in the past year due mainly to the closure of four casinos here.
The loss in jobs over the year reported by the US Department of Labor Statistics on Tuesday was the largest non-farm sector loss of all 318 metropolitan areas surveyed by the agency, according to the Associated Press.
The casino closings over the past 12 months resulted in 8,000 job losses. On Dec. 20, Trump Taj Mahal is scheduled to close, which will put another 3,000 workers on the unemployment line. See story at northjersey.com.
