PERRYVILLE, MD—Officials with Hollywood Casino Perryville, once Maryland's only casino, say they will eliminate more than 300 slot machines and bring new slots to the facility as part of a host of planned upgrades at the property that first opened in 2010.

Casino general manager Matthew Heiskell says six unpopular machines and 302 others of its 1,158 slot machines will be unplugged as part of what he terms will be a retooling. He says the casino plans to invest several million dollars in new slot machines, diversify amenities with new meeting spaces, according to the Baltimore Sun.

"We're going to continue to be the safe, comfortable friendly place," Heiskell says. "I've called it the neighborhood bar. You know where your machine is."

In 2010, Hollywood Casino Perryville became Maryland's first casino and generated almost $11.4 million in its first full month. The state now has five casinos with a sixth in the works. Hollywood Casino took in $6.2 million in slots and table game revenue in November, down 6.9% from a year earlier. Revenue at the casino has fallen far short of what the state projected when slots were legalized. See story in the Baltimore Sun.
