TRENTON, NJ—While the company has declined comment on reports that it is considering a move to Georgia, the state of New Jersey is reportedly offering Mercedes-Benz USA substantial incentives to remain in the Garden State.
The German automaker, which has maintained its North American corporate headquarters in Montvale, NJ since 1972, has scheduled its annual president's reception on Tuesday at the Park Ridge Marriott. Some employees, who asked not to be identified, have speculated that the company might announce plans to move at that time. According to a source, Georgia is offering Mercedes-Benz tax incentives of $40 million to $50 million to relocate operations there, the Record reports.
State Sen. Gerald Cardinale says state officials, led by Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, are “actively working to try to keep'' Mercedes-Benz in New Jersey. He says the company has been offered a “substantial financial package” includes tax incentives.
