WASHINGTON, DC—DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson says that the District and developer Akridge are “ very far apart” in coming to an agreement on the price for the final parcel of land the city requires to build the new D.C. United soccer stadium.
"My own view of it is that it's fine to try and negotiate," DC Council Chairman Mendelson told the Washington Business Journal. "Based on the last conversation that I had with Akridge, I think where they are in the negotiation and where we are, or should be, in the negotiation are very far apart. And as I indicated to representatives of Akridge, this is a business transaction. We should pay fair market value."
The council has provided Mayor Muriel Bowser's administration with the authority to seize Akridge's two acres at Buzzard Point through eminent domain. If that happens, a judge will likely determine fair market value. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
