ANNAPOLIS, MD—With a steady snow coming down, Larry Hogan took the oath of office as governor on Wednesday at the state house here promising to run his administration in a bi-partisan fashion.

The Republican governor, who faces a $750-million budget deficit and a Democratic-dominated legislature, said his decisions would not be based on party affiliation.

"Today is not the beginning of an era of divided government," Hogan said. "Today is the beginning of a new spirit of bipartisan cooperation in Annapolis."

He said his administration will be guided by four principles: fiscal responsibility, economic growth, reform and fairness.

While he did not offer any specific proposals, he said, "Let's create a Maryland that is thriving, growing, innovating, and is responsive to the needs of all its citizens. Let's strive to make Maryland the best place in America to live, work, raise a family, start a business or even to retire." See story in the Batimore Business Journal.
