BALTIMORE—Maryland Live and Horseshoe Baltimore, Maryland's two largest casinos, have asked state regulators for permission to scrap approximately 300 slot machines at their respective facilities and add more lucrative table games.
The requests to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission are scheduled to be considered at a session here today, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Maryland Live recently submitted a request to remove 300 slot machines and add at least 13 table games. The facility currently has 4,222 slots and 189 table games,
The Horseshoe, which has 2,500 slots and 147 table games, has submitted a request to eliminate 300 slots and add 30 table games. The Horseshoe opened Aug. 26 and has underperformed state expectations.
Casino operators are permitted to keep 80% of the proceeds from table games and 33% from slot machines. Most of the remainder of the revenue goes to the state, including the Education Trust Fund. See story in the Baltimore Sun.
