ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—The New Jersey Casino Control Commission is holding a special meeting on Thursday to consider granting preliminary approval to the Florida Seminole Indians, the owner of the Hard Rock brand, to own a casino here.

Hard Rock in its regulatory filing said it "remains interested in the Atlantic City casino industry and may, if found qualified, engage in a business or activity that would require the issuance of a casino license. The issuance of a statement of compliance to Hard Rock Atlantic City will enable it to act quickly if an appropriate investment opportunity arises in the Atlantic City casino market.”

In its filing, Hard Rock did not specify if it had identified a casino project or acquisition, according to The Inquirer.

Hard Rock proposed a boutique casino-hotel with a rock 'n' roll theme in 2011, but abandoned the plan soon afterward. Hard Rock also showed some interest in Revel last summer while the casino resort was looking for buyers prior to its closure. See story in The Inquirer.
