WASHINGTON, DC—Republic Properties has proposed the addition of a 15-story residential tower at its Portals development site on Maryland Avenue.
The site at 1331 Maryland Ave. SW is known as Portals V and is currently planned for a nine-story office building. The site in the lower 14th Street area is near three Portals office buildings at 1250 Maryland Ave. SW, 445 12th St. SW and 1201 Maryland Ave. SW. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel is also part of the Portals complex, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The proposal is now before the federal Commission of Fine Arts, which has yet to rule on the plan. If approved, the building would be one of the District's tallest buildings. It is believed the plan would need to pass muster with the DC Zoning Commission.
The project is the last phase of the $1-billion Portals office development leased to mainly federal tenants. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
