EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—This week more than 1,700 workers at the Izod Center here were notified by the state that they will be losing their jobs at the end of March.

The layoffs are the result of the decision by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority to close down for at least 20 months the 34-year old arena that was at one time home to the New Jersey Devils and the New Jersey (now Brooklyn) Nets.

Approximately 1,400 Izod employees received notification as required by the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN). Approximately 339 Aramark food and beverage workers received a similar WARN notice, according to The Record.

Among the layoffs, not including the food and beverage employees, include: 618 stagehands, 263 security guards, 169 admissions workers, 116 trades workers, 66 box office employees, and 50 parking attendants. See story in The Record.
