PLAINSBORO, NJ—The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has opened a new nearly $20-million facility here that replaces leased space in the area and is also easily expandable to handle future growth.

The pediatric medical center has opened its $19.8 million Specialty Care Center here, the first of six health care facilities it says it plans to open this year.

"Our goal is to provide services close to home, when appropriate, so patients only have to come to the main hospital when they need to—when they are really sick," says Amy Lambert, senior vice president of the CHOP Care Network.

The 25,000-square-foot specialty care center is on the campus of the University Medical Center of Princeton in Plainsboro and replaces a former 10,000-square-foot center, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Douglas Carney, senior vice president for facilities and construction management at CHOP, says the one-story building can be quickly expanded to 100,000 square feet if demand dictates. See story in the Philadelphia Business Journal.
