ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—One of the more successful gaming facilities on the Boardwalk, the Tropicana Casino and Resort will be undertaking a $35-million renovation campaign.

The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority approved the plan recently along with another $1.6 million for roof repairs to its Boardwalk Hall, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The renovations are critical to the Tropicana competing for convention and business meetings, according to its CEO Tony Rodio.

“We try to attract small- to medium-sized convention and meeting groups, and all of the renovations and capital dollars will leave us as one of the better alternatives and options," he says. "It's the key to Atlantic City's future success—more mid-week business and conventions."

While some competitors shut their doors here, the Tropicana posted a revenues increase of nearly 30% to $297.2 million last year and its December 2014 revenues were 32.9% higher year-over-year, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
