ALEXANDRIA, VA—The JBG Cos. is in contract to acquire the proposed Hoffman Town Center office complex here and is taking over for the Hoffman family in the pursuit of a headquarters for the Transportation Security Administration at the property.

JBG of Chevy Chase, MD, is the contract purchaser of the 4.85-acre Hoffman Town Center site known as Block 2, according to the Washington Business Journal.

JBG took over the pursuit of TSA in November. The Hoffman family previously submitted plans for a 550,000-square-foot TSA headquarters building and a 1,000-space parking garage on the same site. JBG has since altered the design to what is now a 631,427-square-foot, 217-foot-tall building, a 330,309-square-foot, 995-space parking garage and an open plaza.

The TSA currently operates in five buildings in Northern Virginia. The General Services Administration, which is handling the headquarters search, is expected to make an award by the second quarter of 2015.

The Hoffman Town Center is currently approved for 3.5 million square feet of Class A office space in 10 buildings, 1.5 million square feet of residential space in four towers, two hotels, 200,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, and an existing 22-screen AMC Theater.
