WEST MILFORD, NJ—On Monday, Passaic County announced it had acquired the development rights for the nearly 45-acre West Milford Equestrian Center for approximately $1 million.

The county plans to preserve the property off Union Valley Road as farmland in perpetuity. The $986,695 preservation of the West Milford Equestrian Center site was funded through a combination of state and county farmland preservation funds. The Freeholders approved the county's $394,676 contribution last year, according to Suburban Trends.

In 2014, Passaic County spent $410,000 to preserve the Indian Hills Farm property off Germantown Road and the Hidden Acres Farm off Westbrook Road. The county had sought to acquire the development rights at the West Milford Equestrian Center for the past eight years.

"My colleagues and I continue to preserve important farmland throughout Passaic County. We are proud of this purchase of 44 acres of pristine farmland in West Milford," Freeholder Director Hector Lora states. See story in Suburban Trends.
