SANTA CLARA, CA—The Irvine Company has submitted a proposal for another project here—a transit-oriented mixed use with 417 apartments and about 26,000 square feet of retail space near the Santa Clara Caltrain station.
The Silicon Valley Business Journal says the Newport Beach-based firm has made the proposal to city officials, citing a city-staff report from last week.
The site is on 6.4 acres in an area that is currently a mix of light-industrial buildings and older homes.
The plan is the first sizable proposal submitted since the city completed and adopted its Station Area Plan. That guideline was developed in 2006 with an aim to encourage higher-density uses near transit, the Journal article notes. The plans for the development call for one and two-bedroom units, and with a multi-level design, the project may reach a density of 65 units per-acre.
Irvine Company, is currently in various stages of planning and development with several other projects in Santa Clara and elsewhere in the Silicon Valley.
