BATLIMORE—The city's Vacants to Value program has awarded Cross Street Partners, led by C. William Struever, the rights to redevelop the storied A. Hoen and Co. building in East Baltimore.
The mixed-use project calls for residential and commercial space, including office space for nonprofits, a production kitchen and a cafe and bakery. The building at 2101 E. Biddle St. will be developed in a joint venture with City Life Builders, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.
“We are delighted to have won the development rights for the Hoen property, with its storied history and tremendous potential as a key anchor for East Baltimore's future," states John Renner, Cross Street's development director. "Hoen represents just one of the many fantastic investment opportunities in the area immediately north of the East Baltimore Development initiative."
The building, vacant since 1981, was home to A. Hoen and Co., which was the first company to produce color cards and maps for National Geographic. See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
