ROSSLYN, VA—A proposal by development firm Penzance Cos. to build a major mixed-use development on Wilson Boulevard here has been given the thumbs up by Arlington County staff.

The public-private partnership calls for Penzance, owner of 1555 Wilson Blvd., to acquire adjacent county owned land to build a new 17-story office building, a 27-story residential building at the eastern edge of the site between Wilson and 18th Street, a 24-story residential building and a new fire station, according to the Washington Business Journal. The 1555 Wilson Blvd. property is currently home to the Washington Business Journal. Penzance acquired 1555 Wilson in 2011 for $67 million.

The plan also includes a new 11,500-square-foot county park, a 43,500-square-foot field and an 18,500-square-foot public plaza. Nearby, Arlington Public Schools are proposing a new six-story, $80-million secondary school at the corner of Wilson Boulevard and Quinn Street.

The development plan, along with the new school proposal, is "consistent with the charge" of the Western Rosslyn Area Planning Study, Arlington staff recently concluded. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
