CHEVY CHASE, MD—Dan Tangherlini, who recently left his post as administrator of the General Services Administration, has been named chief operating officer of Chevy Chase, MD-based real estate investment and management firm Artemis Real Estate Partners.
Tangherlini spent more than 20 years in government service and had been the head of the GSA since taking over the post in the wake of the conference spending scandal at the agency in 2012, according to the Washington Post. He had announced he was leaving the GSA last month and his last day at the agency was Feb. 14. Denise Turner Roth is currently serving as interim GSA administrator.
For the federal government he worked at the Treasury Department, the Department of Transportation, the Office of Management and Budget and the GSA. At the GSA he proposed real estate swaps aimed at building a new headquarters for the FBI and a new neighborhood called “Federal Triangle South.”
Beginning on March 30, he will join Artemis CEO Deborah Harmon, who co-founded the firm with Penny Pritzker. The firm's local properties include Carlyle Center, an Alexandria office building, and Springfield Corporate Center, according to data from CoStar Group.
“Dan's wealth of experience and leadership in fiscal and operational management will enable him to be a valuable partner as Artemis continues its significant growth,” Harmon states. “We are excited to work with Dan to implement institutional and operational best practices while maintaining our entrepreneurial culture.” See story in the Washington Post.
