CULVER CITY, CA—Servicon Systems has landed the first LEED-New Construction Platinum certification in Culver City, CA, for its Mahdesian Learning Center & Client Innovation Hub. The property held its grand opening last week, and unveiled the honor. The certification is the highest offered by the US Green Building Council.

“Servicon is making a big statement in the cleaning industry by demonstrating that innovation can always raise the bar,” Stacey Wong, director of sales at Servicon Systems, tells GlobeSt.com. “There is no reason why a commodity service shouldn't evolve and find new ways to disrupt 'business as usual' with a better way of doing things. Our LEED facility does just that. It creates an amazing environment for us to maintain our best practices through training our managers, and at the same time, creating accountability for our sustainability commitment.”

Located at 3965 Landmark Street in Culver City, the Mahdesian Learning Center & Client Innovation Hub serves as a research, field-testing and training facility as well as the home of the Servicon Academy. Servicon set out to build one of the most sustainable buildings in the L.A. area with high air-quality standards. Using the adaptive reuse model, Servicon started with a windowless warehouse space and transformed the building into a modern and efficient property that has a smaller carbon footprint than a Toyota Prius. Edward Ogosta, AIA, led the redevelopment, incorporating ample natural light and quality materials throughout the space. The property is also located near the EXPO Green Light Rail station, offering employees direct access to public transportation.

Servicon has been making quite a few headlines recently. The commercial sustainable maintenance company also recently named Laurie Sewell its new CEO. Sewell formerly served as president, and takes over the CEO position for the company's founder Richard Mahdesian, who has become chairman emeritus.
