LOS ANGELES—CBC Alliance is opening an office in Downtown Los Angeles, and has tapped former CBRE brokers Matthew Renshaw and Mark O'Brien to sit at the helm, GlobeSt.com reports exclusively. Renshaw and O'Brien will serve as managing principals in the downtown office, and will be tasked with expanding the firm's business and recruiting talent.

“Downtown L.A. is really going wild right now, and I think with the backing of CBC Alliance, it is a great opportunity to grow the business here. We are really excited about it,” O'Brien tells GlobeSt.com. “The opportunity to build something from the ground up is something that you don't get too often in this business.” Renshaw echoes the sentiment, saying, “The opportunity to take a group that already has a great platform elsewhere and build a group and a team was really exciting.”

Both Renshaw and O'Brien join the firm from CBRE, where together they have transacted more than 9 million square feet of rentable real estate. As managing principals, they will be both players and coaches, working to grow both their own business and the company's business, while recruiting new talent and assisting and training brokers. “We want to build a special forces, so we will have a group that works with tenants, a group that works with landlords, a retail group, an industrial group and an investment group,” says Renshaw. “We want to build an office around that, and really touch every base.”

CBC Alliance already has offices in Glendale and Orange County, and the New York-based firm is positioning the downtown office to further amplify its Southern California presence. Bill Ukropina, Greg Barsamian and George Issaians lead the Glendale office, which currently has 21 brokers. The office focuses on small and midsize companies in the San Fernando Valley.

Last month, CBC Alliance CEO Obie Walli and EVP Adam Petriella stopped by the Real Share L.A. conference to talk about the firm's growth plans and business strategy. In the interview, Walli says that focusing on the middle markets has helped contribute to their success.
