AUSTIN--Catellus Development Corp. has selected CBRE | UCR as the exclusive retail leasing representatives for Aldrich Street, Mueller's town-center district in Austin.

The planned 1.2-million-square-foot, mixed-use district is part of the larger, 700-acre Mueller master-planned redevelopment of the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, located three miles from downtown and two miles from The University of Texas at Austin.

In addition to the new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema announced in March, groundbreaking for the next phase of Aldrich Street, including new street front retail space, is scheduled for late 2015.

“Mueller has grown into its own trade area, thanks to the residential, retail and office activity that continues to take place here,” says Greg Weaver, executive vice president of Catellus. “Currently, nearly 5,000 people live at Mueller and another 5,000 people or so work at Mueller, on top of the tens of thousands of residents and workers who are located within a two-mile radius. Aldrich Street is envisioned to be the densest, most diverse part of Mueller that ties the community together, and we look forward to working with the CBRE | UCR team to expand Aldrich Street as a local destination."

The Aldrich Street district attracts an estimated 800,000 visitors or more annually, anchored by The Thinkery, Austin's children's museum; three class A multifamily communities; two corporate headquarters, Seton Healthcare Family and SEDL; and Mueller Lake Park, which hosts more than one hundred community events each year, including the weekly Mueller Farmers' Market.

The leasing team, led by Eric DeJernettSergio Negrete and John Heffington, are focusing on businesses that embody the culture and lifestyle of Austinites, including a vibrant mix of retail shops, restaurants, recreation and entertainment.

“Alamo Drafthouse's decision to locate within the Mueller community is a testament to the exponential growth of residential and business activity in this part of Austin—and the real need for entertainment, restaurant and retail services for the surrounding neighborhoods. The overwhelming success of The Thinkery has proven the destination that Aldrich Street has become for families from all over Austin,” says DeJernett.
