CHICAGO—Assemble Shared Office has just put the finishing touches on its newest space for startups and small businesses, this time in the West Loop, and plans to open the doors on June 1. The 12,144 square-foot space will occupy the elevated first floor of 600 W. Jackson Blvd. and joins its first location in the Gold Coast at 1165 N. Clark St.
Fifield Cos. purchased 600 W. Jackson Blvd., an eight-story, 106,000 square-foot office building in March for $15.3 million, according to Cook County property records. Company officials said they plan to transform the structure into creative office spaces.
“It's got the bones of a good creative office building, as well as a distinguished history,” Steven Fifield, chairman and chief executive officer of Fifield, told GlobeSt.com. Built in 1912, 600 W. Jackson was designed by famed Chicago architect Daniel Burnham for the Otis Elevator Co. “The proximity to public transportation and the building's classic architectural features make it a desirable property,” particularly its high ceilings, “which are favored by creative and tech tenants.”
For a monthly membership, Assemble tenants will have access to critical business amenities such as printing, WiFi, coffee, conference rooms, and other services. In addition, they will work in an amenity-rich neighborhood that has also rapidly transformed into one of the region's premier high tech hubs. Google, Twitter, and Uber have all agreed to occupy significant space nearby. Furthermore, the building is near Union Station, the Ogilvie train station, and the CTA Blue line.
"The West Loop is an ideal location for another Assemble Shared Office," said Phil Domenico, co-founder of Assemble. "The abundance of innovation in that area means that it's the perfect choice for startups, small businesses with less than 10 employees. It truly is Chicago's startup hub and the center of a thriving entrepreneurial community."
Assemble also plans to open other spaces in Minneapolis, Miami, and Raleigh.
