WASHINGTON, DC—President Obama has announced the new head for the General Services Administration: Denise Turner Roth.
Roth assumed the role of deputy administrator at GSA a year ago. She has also been serving as acting administrator since the start of the year when GSA Administrator Dan Tangherlini left the agency on Feb. 13.
Roth's career in public service began on Capitol Hill in the office of Congressman Jim Moran. She has since served as a special assistant for legislative affairs in the office of Mayor Anthony Williams and as the public space manager for the District of Columbia Department of Transportation.
She has also served as the city manager of Greensboro, NC.
A GSA administrator must be confirmed by the Senate. Given the past excesses attributed to the GSA, it is probable Congress will closely scrutinize this appointment. Then again, the Senate green-lighted Tangherlini as GSA head in 2013, after he served 15 months as acting administrator.
