KANSAS CITY—Hunt Midwest earned record-setting profits in 2014 and 2015 is also shaping up as a landmark year for the Kansas City-based real estate developer, best known for SubTropolis, its mammoth underground business park. The company has just completed the surface business park expansion of its Hunt Midwest Business Center, and with 126 acres, company officials say it can accommodate up to two million square feet of class A warehouse and distribution space.
“HMBC is located in Clay County just south of Ford's Claycomo Assembly Plant and adjacent to both the Norfolk Southern Intermodal facility and Kansas City's FedEx Ground hub,” says Hunt Midwest president and chief executive officer Ora Reynolds. “This makes HMBC an ideal location for e-commerce fulfillment centers, automotive suppliers and up-fitters.”
As reported in GlobeSt.com, Reynolds, a Chicago-native who joined the company in 1991, was promoted to the top leadership positions this spring.
Companies looking for a site in HMBC can purchase land, launch build-to-suits or lease buildings. The 2015 expansion kicks off a much broader plan that will add more than 7 million square feet of new class A industrial space on 700 acres owned by Hunt Midwest. Reynolds anticipates an estimated long-term investment of close to $450 million over the next 25 years.
“Site selectors tell us time and again that Kansas City is a desirable location for big-box industrial space,” says Reynolds. “With HMBC's central location, prime highway access and proximity to intermodal and ground freight shipping hubs, we see tremendous opportunity to be a major player in the Kansas City metro.”
