NEW YORK CITY—The National Basketball Players Association has decided to sell its headquarters building on Lenox Ave. in order to relocate to leased space at the Durst Organization's 1133 Ave. of the Americas.
The players union will sell its 310 Lenox Ave. building in Harlem and move into 47,234 square feet at 1133 Ave. of the Americas, according to a report in the New York Post. The NBPA signed a 21-year lease deal at 1133 Ave. of the Americas. Its new space will also include a training facility on the fifth floor that will feature a basketball court. The union's executive offices will be housed on a portion of the sixth floor of the building.
Avison Young's Arthur Mirante and Martin Cottingham represented the NBPA, while the Durst Organization was represented in-house by Tom Bow and Rocco Romeo.
“We are bringing all the superstars to midtown and they will love it up here,” says Mirante. “We will have a world-class training facility in a former RCA recording studio.”
The NBA recently closed its NBA Store nearby at 509 Fifth Ave. and has scheduled a winter opening of its flagship store at 545 Fifth Ave. (at 45th Street), according to the NBA website.
The NBPA currently occupies 11,000 square feet at 310 Lenox Ave. The 25,000-square-foot building, which is also the home to a Red Rooster Restaurant, is under contract to be sold to an investor. See story in the New York Post.
