LOS ANGELES—Los Angeles-based builder Bernards has completed construction on the second phase of Playa del Oro in Silicon Beach, developer Decron Properties Corp.'s 665-unit mixed-use multifamily complex. The second phase added 5,000 square feet of retail space and 260 units to the project, which is now in its lease-up phase.
“Unlike Playa Vista, which is a much larger living community, Playa del Oro offers residents all the same conveniences and amenities in a more intimate environment,” Jocelyn Topolski, director of business development at Bernards, tells GlobeSt.com. “Playa del Oro is on the southern end of the Silicon Beach submarket, making it a shorter commute to LAX than it's counterparts located farther north, while still being in close proximity to the beautiful Southern California coast and walking distance to multiple supermarkets, restaurants and other retail establishments.”
Located in the Westchester district of Los Angeles, the property sits on 13 acres with mountain and ocean views. It was designed by Van Tilburg, Banvard & Soderbergh and comes complete with a substantial amenity package, including a swimming pool, dog park, sky lounge, game lounge, cinema screening room and a fitness center with steam and sauna rooms. The property also has ground floor retail with restaurants and coffee shops. Additionally, it is walking distance from the Shops at Playa del Oro.
The original 405-unit, 27,000-square-foot mixed-use project was completed in 2009 on the former site of the Furama Hotel. Construction on the second phase of the project started in 2013 and cost an estimated $67 million. The phase has a podium-style slab with 235 units above the podium and an additional 35 units at street level. Bernards has a long history constructing similar projects, including the recently completed Camden Glendale and Camden Hollywood.
