WASHINGTON, DC—The General Services Administration awarded nine GSA Leasing Support Services contracts across the country, including two to small businesses.

For this round of contracts, GSA decided on a "zonal approach". That is, it increased the number of contracts and awarded them by geographic zones instead of nationally.

The zonal approach makes it easier for small businesses to compete for awards, the agency said.

These newly chosen GLSs are expected to generate some 30 million to 40 million square feet in task orders, or $100 million in rent savings. Since the program's inception (it was formerly called National Broker Contracts), GLS has saved about $250 million in rent for the government.

GSA made awards in the following four zones:

Northern Service Area

Jones Lang LaSalle Americas

CBRE

Southern Service Area

Savills Studley

Public Properties (Small Business)

Western Service Area

Carpenter/Robbins Commercial Real Estate (Small Business)

DTZ Americas

National Capital Service Area

CBRE

Jones Lang LaSalle Americas

Savills Studley

Army Floats Possible 70,000-SF Training Building Bid

WASHINGTON, DC—The Department of the Army is conducting a market survey to see if enough small businesses are interested in bidding for the construction of a 400-member Army Reserve Center.

The facility would consist of a 70,000-square foot ARC training building, a 16,000-square foot speciality maintenance building and a 3,000-square foot storage building. The contract should last 720 days and the contract would be worth between $10 million and $25 million.

GSA To Launch Smart Building Pilot

WASHINGTON, DC—GSA announced last month that it has developed a pilot program to make government buildings smarter and that it will be implementing it shortly. The pilot was developed by the Public Buildings Service's Office of Facilities Management and Services Programs along with the Federal Acquisition Services' Assisted Acquisition Services and Integrated Technology Services' Small Business GWAC Center. It is based around a digital signage system GSA procured earlier this summer to communicate with tenants on energy savings initiatives.
