CAMDEN, NJ—Subaru of America has turned the ignition switch for its new 250,000 square-foot corporate headquarters near Admiral Wilson Boulevard in Camden, NJ. Like several other large New Jersey employers, Subaru is taking advantage of Grow NJ tax incentives to move its North American headquarters from Cherry Hill to Camden. Camden, one of the nation's poorest cities, is just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, and tax incentives from the state have lured a number of companies to relocate their New Jersey facilities there, instead of moving out of state. The Philadelphia '76ers NBA team is building a practice facility in the city, and Lockheed Martin and American Water are also planning to move there.
As previously reported by GlobeSt.com, Liberty Property Trust is planning a $1 billion office development on the Camden riverfront.
Subaru has produced record sales in recent years, including seven consecutive years of double-digit growth.
The new development, in Camden's "Gateway" District adjacent to Campbell Soup's world headquarters, will house all of Subaru's headquarters employees on one campus, and the new five-story building is double the size of Subaru's current Cherry Hill location. Subaru will accommodate the more than 600 employees at its new campus.
CBRE's Ken Zirk and Jon Sarkisian represented Subaru and James Carter and Darrell Schuler, both members of the project management team, were also instrumental in the success of this project.
