Richard Jennings

NEW YORK CITY— Realty Capital International founder and former Goldman, Sachs & Co. executive Ricard Jennings has died. The 72-year-old passed away late last month at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, according to Crain's New York Business.

At the helm of RCI since creating the real estate investment banking firm in 1991, Jennings was president of the company. His daughter, Sally Jennings, took over the role after joining the organization in 2012. She did not respond to a request for comment from GlobeSt.com.

Realty Capital has managed over $9 billion of transactions, including joint-venture equity, project finance and REIT initial public offerings, its website states. Its client roster has included SL Green Realty Corp., Boston Properties and Mitsui Fudosan Co.

Prior to creating RCI, according to his executive biography, Jennings oversaw the REIT investment banking business at Goldman for close to 20 years; from 1969 to 1986. During his tenure there, he also founded and managed the mortgage finance group. Earlier, he served as managing director—real estate finance at Drexel Burnham Lambert and SVP of Landauer Real Estate Counselors.

At the same time, Jennings served as the lead director for Alexandria Real Estate Equities and on the board of directors of National Retail Properties. He was a member of ICSC and NAREIT.

In a call with Crain's, Alexandria CEO Joel Marcus said of Jennings, “He was a real down-to-earth, decent person. He was reserved but when he spoke, people paid attention. His ability to have insightful thoughts about key issues that public companies face was kind of a hallmark of his person.”

Jennings is survived by his wife, three daughters, a twin brother, a sister, two sons-in-law and four grandchildren.
