CHICAGO—Downtown Chicago has scored again as another suburban firm has decided it needs office space in the CBD. Officials from Bolingbrook, IL-based ULTA Beauty announced on Friday that they would soon open a 23,000 square foot office at 120 South Riverside Plaza in the West Loop, within a block of both Union and Ogilvie Metra Stations. ULTA currently employs about 750 people at its suburban corporate headquarters and the new downtown space will have 100 work stations. Some suburban firms that have recently opened new downtown offices have done so to serve select employees, such as those in advertising, IT, or marketing, partly to boost their recruiting efforts in these specific sectors. But ULTA's new space “will not serve as a permanent base for any of our associates, but will offer additional flexibility and access to Chicago's public transportation and business community,” a company spokesperson tells GlobeSt.com. However, the retailer, which operates nearly 900 store locations across the US, has added 125 jobs to its corporate office in the last year, so the appeal of a downtown office is also not far from their minds. “As we grow, we believe this satellite office will help us attract the top talent necessary for our continued success,” the spokesperson adds. In fiscal year 2015, the company opened one hundred net new stores, and grew its e-commerce business by more than 47%. "A Chicago location offers our existing employees more flexibility and the ability to collaborate with business partners in new ways," says Mary Dillon, chief executive officer, ULTA Beauty. “Additionally, our new satellite office solidifies our position as members of the Chicagoland community and reflects our continued commitment to this world-class city." 120 South Riverside Plaza sits on the west bank of the Chicago river and offers a number of amenities including a gym and tenant lounge. Montreal-based Ivanhoé Cambridge and its partner Callahan Capital Properties own the 22-story office tower. Ulta Beauty will open its new satellite office in the late summer of 2016. Company officials say they are also investing in the suburbs by expanding and renovating the Bolingbrook headquarters. The renovation will transform the offices into bright, open spaces that reflect the company's recently defined brand identity that invites shoppers to explore the “Fun Side of Beauty.”
