Le Méridien Fort Lauderdale Airport will debut in 2017 after a $30 million renovation and conversion of the hotel.

MIAMI—Dania Beach is getting a luxury hotel. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide is opening Le Méridien, a Paris-born brand, in the Fort Lauderdale submarket in partnership with owner and US real estate developer Charles Cohen.

Le Méridien Fort Lauderdale Airport will debut in 2017 after a $30 million renovation and conversion of the hotel. The renovated hotel will boast a glass curtain wall façade and upgrades to the porte-cochere and large-scale artwork in high impact areas.

“Le Méridien Fort Lauderdale Airport will help to meet rising demand for high-quality lodging within close proximity of the airport, Broward County Convention Center and the downtown business district and will also serve the growing need for meeting rooms and event facilities for tenants of our corporate center,” says Cohen. Cohen is president and CEO of York-based Cohen Brothers Realty Corporation.

Le Méridien Fort Lauderdale Airport will feature 245 guestrooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows and views, as well as two restaurants and the brand's signature Latitude Bar.  The hotel will also introduce Le Méridien Hub, which reinterprets the traditional hotel lobby into a social gathering place and builds on the brand's arrival experience and coffee culture.

“Le Méridien Fort Lauderdale Airport will be the brand's second hotel in Florida, joining its growing North America portfolio,” says Allison Reid, senior vice president of North America Development at Starwood. “Le Méridien is a perfect brand for strategic conversions and adaptive re-use projects, which are driving the brand's growth in the region, allowing us to enter mature metropolitan markets more quickly.”

The hotel is located literally minutes from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Fort Lauderdale Everglades Cruise Port. The hotel also neighbors several beaches, Downtown Fort Lauderdale, and restaurants, night clubs and boutiques of nearby Miami Beach.

“Miami's once seasonal tourist industry is now characterized by high year round occupancy and average daily rates,” Gunster attorney Brian Belt tells GlobeSt.com. “Miami is doing particularly well in the high end luxury hotels. Traffic issues also continue to be a negative factor for some of our clients and we obviously believe that this issue will remain for an extended time period.”
